What kind do of antenna will I need if I drop cable?
Considering dropping cable. I have two TVs on cable right now. Both about 13 years old. If I change the first to antenna setting it gets a great picture and about 10 channels. If I switch the 2nd to antenna, I get fuzz and not even an ounce of picture or voice. I am assuming if I get a digital converter the first tv won't need an additional antenna. However, my dilemma is what would I need for the 2nd? Would a new antenna on top of the tv and the converter box work? Or would I need to get an outside antenna. I am thinking because I get such good reception on the first tv that with proper equipment I could get the same with the second. Also, this tv is located next to a large window - if that even matters? I am trying to avoid an outside antenna. Any advice/suggestions?
antennaweb.org says there is no service in my area. I know that is not true . . . this process is rather frustrating. I try to do my homework but am having a hard time finding answers . . . Thanks for your help!
Yes, being next to a window can make a difference. The signal loss through glass is not a great as through other building materials.
If your sets are 13 years old, yes you will need converter boxes and antennas. Any TV antenna will work as well for digital as for analog. The antenna you need depends on how strong the signal is in your area. Visit http://www.antennaweb.org . Based on your zip code, the site will suggest the proper antenna based on an industry standard color code. If you see a lot of yellow, you may have a good chance of making an indoor antenna work. If there are other colors, you may need to upgrade to a better antenna. In the end, if it doesn't work, you will need a better antenna.
