i believe #8 is 3 because the glucose will have no affect on those 50 people, therefore the scientists can compare the results received from the 50 given the drug to those not given the drug.
as for #9 i believe its 3 as well, because by heating the slice you would remove the water. then u could take the original weight and subtract the new weight from it to get the amount of water in the slice
