Components of agarose gel electrophoroesis?
i have to describe the purpose of each of these components. so far i havent been able to figure it out.
1. Agarose gel
2. TBE buffer
3. Electrophoresis chamber
4. Power supply
5. DNA samples
6. DNA stain
if you could give me any info on any of these things or even a website or something that would really help =]
DNA stain is needed because DNA is colorless and you would not see the bands in the gel without staining the gel.
The agarose gel provides a medium through which the DNA fragments travel.
The buffer is needed to carry the current from one electrode to the other.
The power supply is needed to provide the current. You need current to pull the negatively charged DNA fragments through the gel.
The chamber is needed to hold the gel, the buffer, the DNA samples.
The DNA samples contain the fragments of DNA that you are trying to separate by size using agarose gel electrophoresis.
