Packing tips for product protection
It is recommended that you leave a space of at least 50 mm (2 inches) between the outer container domestic product. This space should be filled with padding of some sort, preferably with bubbles, corrugated paper, kraft paper or suitable material bulk.
What follows is the goal most common makes packaging products are found on market:
Cushioning
Sheets, Cushions & Rolls
Different types of cushioning are available, from polystyrene or biodegradable loose "chips", "shreds" and "peanut" shaped materials to rolls of film plastic sheet bubble bubbled Internet Explorer.
Loose cushioning is usually made from very lightweight materials, it serves to fill in corners, keeping the items centered in the container and absorb shocks and shock absorption. It is clean and reusable but can be very cumbersome to store. Many fillings available on the market are manufactured from recycled products. If you export, try to avoid the use of polystyrene, as in many countries, it is considered not be environmentally friendly and a fine could be imposed. In plant-based and biodegradable materials are preferred.
Bubbles gives very good protection to shock, vibration and abrasion, while being lightweight and flexible.
When items packaging or stacked objects, you should always use separations, which provide shock absorption.
The most frequently used are sheets of corrugated cardboard, sheets of chipboard or light brown "kraft paper" sheets. Rolls of corrugated cardboard, cut size, are excellent for filling low cost. Ballistic foam is recommended to pack fragile items.
As your shipment is transported, it may be exposed to adverse environments caused by weather conditions and transport vibrations, packaging, correctly is vital.
If possible, use boxes made of sturdy corrugated cardboard.
Wrap fragile materials individually so they do not touch.
Even the stickiest labels can come off. An additional address label placed inside package is a good precaution.
Remove old address labels or shipping of your package.
Use cushioned bags, such as foam and bubble bags to carry items such as diskettes, tapes, keys and small electronic parts. These bags offer good performance of shock absorption. Waterproof and anti-static versions are also available.
The boxes are the type most commonly used for packaging. The range of sizes and shapes, different combinations of materials, and the number of accessories available to strengthen and secure, make boxes the most appropriate way to pack your shipments.
If you are shipping wooden boxes, so that the corners are correctly protected and make sure the box is not broken because it can cause injuries to people handling the boxes.
Sometimes, heavy cardboard with double wall is suitable and economical substitute for wood.
All packages must be sealed to prevent the contents to fall. A good seal helps to strengthen your package, however, be aware that any shipment may be opened for inspection by customs or security services during transport.
Always use strong tape such as polypropylene or vinyl adhesive tape. Other types of reinforced tape fibers such as paper tapes may also be used.
The use of string around your box is not recommended because it can cut the cardboard and damage your package.
The use of wrapping paper around boxes or objects unconfined is only recommended for items like textile products, to prevent damage caused by dust. Remember to enclose be packaged in a box.
Wrapping paper can also be used as a cushioning material by crumpling and putting it inside a box.
When you use shrink wrap film, adhesive labels on the boxes and not on movies. Often, the film is broken down to scan each item barcode.
When applied properly, with the proper voltage, strapping is an ideal way to strengthen your shipment. Loose strapping is useless and too tight strapping can damage the box, by cutting through it.
Edge protectors are available in plastic and recycled cardboard. When using strapping, edge protectors prevent damage to your shipment by distributing pressure and tension strapping uniformly across the box edge, preventing damage to the cardboard.
Avoid:
Exceeding the weight specification of the shipping container.
Use of wrapping paper, string, cellophane or masking tape.
Allow packages to get wet while waiting for pickup.
Includes information indicating high value of contents on the address label or package.
